Friday 9th December 2016 was the day for one of the GLCT’s annual favourite Christmas events – a morning of fun for pupils from eight local special schools and units on the Bluebell Railway Santa Special.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Sussex Community Foundation and also the Gatwick Airport Community Trust, children were treated as VIPs from the time they arrived at Sheffield Park as well as during the journey.
Guests were entertained by a puppeteer and magician; a strolling musician and hand-painters as well as a friendly panda and a lion. Of course, Santa himself was on the train to give each child a present.
The High Sheriff of West Sussex Mark Spofforth met the helpers and watched as the special guests were escorted from their vehicles to boarded the train, assisted by local business partners, plus members of WSFRS and volunteers from ESFRS.
“Thank you for treating us to a very special, memorable day at Bluebell. All of our pupils had such a wonderful time.”
