Thanks to the generosity of Barclays Bank, GLCT were able to invite schools to enjoy the ATP tennis finals at the O2 Arena, London on either Monday 14th, Tues 15th & Weds 16th November 2016.
Pupils from Grove Park Secondary, Crowborough; Manor Green College, Ifield; and Brantridge School, Staplefield who have tennis coaching at their schools, enjoyed exciting visits.
On the Monday visit children watched as various show biz personalities and tennis players were interviewed. Children visiting on Tuesday met Greg Rusedski, who posed for photos with them and the Wednesday guests were treated to the longest game (at the time!) that Andy Murray had played (3hr 20 minutes).
Thanks to a little GLCT magic, this was followed by a surprise meeting for the children with Max Mirnyi, a world champion tennis player from Belarus, who was playing on Thursday. He signed autographs, answered questions and happily posed for photos with them.
Those three days were such special opportunities for the pupils – none had been to such a venue or such a sporting event before. All coped with the long, exciting visits very well, and certainly will remember their day for a long while.
