Nine teams of students involved in the National Curriculum or Vocational Foundation Learning, or who attend adult centres, took part in this 25th year of the annual Jim Green Challenge.
Of schools supported by Golden Lion Children’s Trust only the team from Woodlands Meed College, Burgess Hill was able to attend this year because of staffing issues – but Manor Green College students did have their work displayed.
There are nine sections to the competition. Each team chooses four tasks and prepares much of the work from September onwards, keeping a diary of their progress for the judges. Plus there are four tasks they have to attempt on the day.
On the day of the Challenge some students planted window boxes, used at various events at the Showground through the Spring …
Before lunch they were able to look at farm vehicles …
… or spend time with some of the dogs …
After lunch they took part in making a scarecrow of an outer space alien …
…before the prize-giving where Woodlands Meed were rewarded for their efforts in two classes – making a Devil’s Food Chocolate Cake and identifying 20 different seeds.
Congratulations to the Woodlands Meed College team, and to all the young people who took part in the Jim Green Challenge 2023.
