Students enjoy the opera at Glyndebourne

College students from Woodlands Meed College, Burgess Hill and Grove Park,
Crowborough with parents, carers or school staff were treated to a wonderful time at
Glyndebourne on Wednesday 19 th October 2022 to enjoy ‘The Marriage of Figaro’
helped by the Golden Lion Children’s Trust. It was a very special and memorable
experience for all involved.

Most had never seen an opera before. This visit through Glyndebourne’s
‘Performance for Schools’ scheme was the perfect opportunity to enjoy a new
cultural experience at such a prestigious venue. It was a late morning performance
and after the show many of the students enjoyed having a hot drink together chatting
about the event.

One of the parents who attended the performance said:
‘This was a wonderful opportunity to see our first Opera, in a truly breath-taking
location. Although it was long, it didn’t feel it, we were all transfixed by the story line
and the music. Having surtitles helped to translate, but I think even without them we
knew what was going on. The cast was brilliant, the music was beautiful and in parts
very familiar. Thank you to the Golden Lions for giving us the opportunity to see the
wonderful Marriage of Figaro – something we would never have been able to do
without their support.’
